Many times I have purchased food at the store without even thinking where it comes from, the work that went behind that apple, that broccoli, that carton of milk… Does this sound familiar to you?
We are, sometimes, very disconnected from where our food comes from and this is so important in so many levels. Where our food comes from would allow to know if it was raised or cultivated without pesticides, it would help us understand the cost behind the food we buy, it would makes us realize how hard a life of a farmer can be and most importantly, it allows to know if this food was raised with love and care.
Yes, I know that sounds cheesy and I don’t think I even thought about food raised with love until I heard this farmer speaking about his grass-fed, organic dairy cows.

A little background on this visit…
On June 2019 I was invited by Organic Valley to tour a dairy and egg farm (see the highlight on my Instagram Stories about this visit). I get really excited when companies invite me to tour their facilities because I know they have to be proud of what they’re doing if they’re exposing themselves in this way.
I went to Wisconsin very excited to learn more about Organic Valley but I left seeing farming, and especially organic farming, in a whole new way! It immediately changed how we are shopping for milk from now on.
I learned that Organic Valley farmers love their cows just like you and I love our kids. During my visit to Wisconsin I spoke with about 5 different farmers and I could see how much they loved what they do and their animals. It was very emotional to see how much passion and love these farmers have and the struggles they have gone through so you and I can have a piece of cheese, a yogurt or a glass of milk whenever we want to.
This is when I realized how important it is to understand where our food comes from and to consume foods that come from people like these Organic Valley farmers.
- It’s better for our environment because they are doing their best to protect our environment by avoiding toxic pesticides, rotating crop, wasting less, etc.
- It’s better for our health, especially if you believe we’re all energy, since we end up consuming food from these animals. I don’t know about you, but I rather have my children drinking milk from cows that were raised with love than from cows that were treated like a number and not properly cared for.
- It’s free of harmful toxins. A recent study showed that conventional milk is using illegal antibiotics in their cows.
I also understood how Organic Valley operates. They are not one big corporation trying to make more and more money out of each consumer. They are actually a co-op of farmers, hundreds of farmers with smaller farms that pull in together their resources to produce dairy in large quantities. They are a large co-op of farmers with a dream: a dream to raise their animals with love, to leave this world a better place and to produce high quality foods.
By being a co-op of farmers they can offer truly organic and grass-fed dairy products that come from cows raised with love. It’s because each farmer has a number of cows they can manage and get to know!
But instead of learning from me, this is one of those things that you should see for yourself. Hit play on the video above to listen to this amazing story.
