If you’re looking for a simple DIY Baby Bottom Soothing Spray, you’re going to love this natural option. Made with simple ingredients that are great for sensitive skin. You’re going to love this baby bottom spray!
I will never forget the day my baby ate something that didn’t settle well and ended up with a really bad diaper rash. If you’re a mom you’ve probably experienced one of those rashes. Your baby’s bum is all red and you feel horrible because it looks so painful.
I make a baby bottom soothing cream but I needed something that felt more refreshing for my baby. I also wanted something that was easier to carry around and less messy. I started looking into the products we have used on our skin and that’s how I came up with this baby bottom soothing spray.
My biggest priority when making baby products is that they are safe. A lot of baby products contain toxic chemicals, like parabens or phthalates. I want my baby to come in contact with the least amount of chemicals as possible. This is why making your own products is so great – you know exactly what’s in each product. Plus it is so much more affordable than buying premade products.
This baby bottom soothing spray uses 2 key ingredients: witch hazel and aloe vera. You might be familiar with witch hazel because it’s given to woman for postpartum healing. Witch hazel has been used for centuries in skin issues – it promotes fast skin repair, eases pain, swelling and itching, and is a natural astringent.
Aloe Vera is also well known for soothing skin, has antioxidants and antibacterial properties, it accelerates skin repair (has been tested in burns) and it also acts as an analgesic amongst other things. I remember growing up we had a few aloe vera plants in my home and we used them for everything: hair, skin and even ate the gel. It is one of those miraculous plants.
What else can you use baby bottom spray for?
This baby bottom soothing spray is also amazing for postpartum, it is really soothing when you spray it onto your lady parts, and for soothing skin in general. I always carry a bottle in my diaper bag and mainly use it for bruises and after every diaper change. Plus my toddler says it makes her butt smell nice – haha!
The key with this spray is that you need to use quality ingredients, especially when it comes to the aloe vera. I have looked into different brands and haven’t found many up to my standards so right now I stick to the ingredients listed below.
Can you use your own aloe vera plant?
If you’re lucky to live in an area where you can grow the aloe vera plant, you can use it the gel straight up on your baby’s bottom when they have a diaper rash. It works wonders!
Tips for using this baby bottom spray
My biggest tip is that you want to make certain that you shake it before spraying it on your baby’s bottom. The ingredients do have a tendency to settle so giving it a nice shake before spraying will really help with that issue.
I have used this spray when using disposable diapers as well as our cloth diapers. We haven’t had any issues with it affecting the cloth diapers.

DIY Baby Bottom Soothing Spray
I like to carry this spray in my diaper bag so I’ve made the recipe to fit this 2oz spray bottle. If you’re using a bigger bottle, adjust the quantities.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz glass spray bottle
- Stainless steel funnel
- 2 tablespoons of witch hazel
- 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel*
- 1 tablespoon of aloe vera spray*
- 2 drops of Roman Chamomile essential oil (buy on Amazon). This is optional and should not be used on babies under 3 months.
*If the Aloe Vera spray and gel are sold out, you can use this spray and this gel instead. If you decided just to use the spray, add 2 tablespoons.
Directions to make this baby bottom spray:
In a small glass bowl or measuring cup add the witch hazel, aloe vera gel and aloe vera spray.
Mix until all ingredients are combined – you will know when it’s all mixed in when you can no longer see the gel and it’s all liquid.
Add the roman chamomile essential oil and mix one more time.
Transfer to a 2 oz spray bottle using a funnel to avoid spilling.
Place the top back on and it’s ready to use!
Use between diaper changes and for bruises. Make sure you shake the bottle before each use.
This baby bottom soothing spray has so many uses and it’s so effective; that it’s all we use now. I really love how easy to use it is – just spray and done. No need to rub it in. I like to use it this using baby wipes just to make certain it’s nice and clean first before spraying.
Once you make this healing spray, you’re going to love it!

The aloe you recommend is no longer available on Amazon… Do you have another brand that is good? It’s very confusing at the store, there are so many brands and formulations! I know to look for pure aloe vera but it seems so many brands add xanthan gum or carageenan or preservatives. Which brand is safe to get??
Thanks and I love your blog,
Kim
