The last 2-3 weeks have been crazy around here.
Two Thursdays ago we took a short vacation to Portland, Oregon. Now that we have a toddler you can’t just “pack the night before and go” like I did in the pre-baby days. Hum! Who am I kidding? I love being prepared so I always packed ahead of time and made lists but with a toddler that takes way more time because I don’t want to forget something crucial and I need to make sure I’m taking the right type of clothes and the right quantity. Maybe I worry too much but you can never be too prepared. The last thing I want is having a long flight and then getting to a new city to have to look for a store to buy “that special thing” my daughter needed. So after my preparation for the trip was done it was time to take our trip.
To be honest, I have never heard much about Portland prior to this trip. It was only a few weeks before our trip that I started reading about it. I got pretty excited with all that I read and even more excited when I got there and got to experience this city.
Portland is a beautiful city, blessed with so much nature (thanks to it’s “rainy season”). There are trees and parks everywhere, people are so friendly it surprised us, in about an hour you can be at the beach (and not those horrendous beaches we have in the East cost but an actual pretty beach – although nothing beats Costa Rican beaches), in less than 20min we can be up in the mountain overlooking the city and taking a hike, people live outdoors and are very sporty – lots of bikers and they have the BEST coffee I’ve ever had (Stumptown)… It’s overall a great place to visit, especially in the summer when the weather is perfect.
So for those of you thinking about visiting this beautiful place, here are some {iPhone} pictures to convince you to go! (We did take pictures with our camera but who knows when I’ll have the time to download them!)
I totally miss this place. It’s going to be fun for you guys to actually live there. I loved going to the foresty parts right outside of the city. I couldn’t believe the coast. Such beauty!
That’s why we loved it! It’s a perfect combination of city and nature.
