The other day my 5 year old told me 3 poop jokes in a row and though it was the funniest thing she’s ever said. I don’t know about your kids but mine love to make poop jokes ALL THE TIME! So we decided that we should embrace it! After all, we know it’s a phase and we also find their poop jokes quite funny.
My kids love hands-on activities and I love to make DIY products so we make A LOT of kid-themed DIY bath and body products because it’s super fun for them and we end up with a useful product! It’s win-win!
One of our favorite things to make are soaps, using melt and pour soap base. A melt and pour soap base is a block of soap that you melt and customize to your needs/preferences using different ingredients. It is the easiest way to make homemade soap! Plus you can get really fun silicone molds and make soaps in all shapes and sizes!
This soap recipe uses skin loving ingredients, like cedarwood essential oil and activated charcoal. Cedarwood essential oil has many benefits, such as improving eczema and acne, it’s antiseptic, it can speed the healing of wounds and it’s a stress reliever.
Activated charcoal has powerful antioxidants which can promote anti-aging, preventing wrinkles and blemishes. It can pull toxins from the skin, unclog pores, remove dead skin and work to prevent skin infections.
I like using these soap bars on those days that my kids are very dirty! They do a great job at cleaning and it makes bath time a lot more fun.
DIY Holographic Glitter Bat Poop Soap Recipe
This recipe makes 6 poop soaps.
Ingredients:
- Clear melt and pour soap (cut into cubes)
- 1 tablespoon jojoba oil
- 10-20 drops of cedarwood essential oil
- Black holographic cosmetic glitter (optional – when making this for my home I skip the glitter)
- Activated charcoal powder
- Poop soap mold
- Spray bottle with rubbing alcohol
Instructions:
Cut the soap into approximately 1 ounce cubes. Melt the soap in the microwave or using the double boiler method.
If you’re using a microwave, melt in 30 second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the soap is melted. To use the double boiler method, place a small pot of water on the stove over medium heat. Place the soap cubes into a glass jar and then place the glass jar in the pot of water. Stir occasionally until soap in completely melted.
Add 1 tablespoon of jojoba oil to the melted soap and 10-20 drops of cedarwood essential oil
CAREFULLY add activated charcoal to the melted soap and mix thoroughly into soap mixture. The powder can float up into the air and can make a bit of a mess if you mix too vigorously so the key is to pour is slowly and mix gently.
Add glitter to soap mixture, if you’re using any, but make sure you reserve some for later. You don’t need to add a lot of glitter – add a bit at a time until you have the amount of shimmer you like.
Spray bottom of mold with rubbing alcohol. This will help soap from hardening with bubbles but you can skip this step if you want to. Grab the glitter you reserved and sprinkle a bit into each poop mold. Allow for the glitter and alcohol to dry for a few seconds.
Carefully soap mixture into each poop mold.
Spray alcohol on top of soap to prevent bubbles from forming (optional).
Allow soap to harden at least 2-4 hours – you can put it in the fridge to speed up the process.
Once soap has hardened, carefully remove the soaps from the mold.
Store in an airtight container until ready to use or use them to decorate your bathrooms during Halloween month!
These bat poop soaps are not only so much fun but they’re great for your skin! Use them as body soap, hand soap or as party favors for your next Halloween or birthday party.
Happy halloween!
