If there is one thing my girls hate, it is when I pull their hair when brushing it. I don’t blame them, I hate having my hair pulled! Obviously I am as gentle as possible but tangles happen! Thank goodness for detangler spray!
This DIY Essential Oil Detangler Spray is awesome because it smells fantastic and it will really help you to ease those tangles out. You can use it on your kids after a bath or in the morning when getting ready for the day. It’s great to throw in your bag to take to the pool, the beach, or the gym to care for post-swimming or post-workout hair. And it works for all hair types.
Detangler sprays that you can purchase in stores are full of all kinds of chemicals that I generally try to avoid. That’s why I love making my own. I can control the ingredients and ensure that I’m using a product that is natural and free from toxins.
This detangler spray is full of ingredients that will help to nourish your hair and scalp!
Did you know that you can use witch hazel on your hair? I’m sure we all know about it’s amazing properties for benefiting the skin but you don’t often hear about it being used on hair. Witch hazel can actually be really beneficial when used on your hair. It can help relieve scalp issues like itchy scalp, oily scalp, dandruff, or eczema. Because it is so great for the scalp, it can often help promote hair growth.
Ylang Ylang essential oil has been used on the hair for ages. It stimulates hair growth and is a natural treatment for thinning hair. It is also a natural conditioner, which is why it is great in this detangler spray!
Lavender essential oil is a soothing oil that moisturizes the scalp and its antiseptic and antimicrobial properties help it to control dandruff and other scalp issues. The scent of lavender also helps to relieve stress.
Rosemary is another great oil for the hair and scalp. It is said to help stimulate hair growth while dandruff and premature graying.
The back of my girls’ hair gets pretty dry so I need to use this spray daily but there have been times I don’t have all these ingredients or we’re traveling. For those times we get the detangling spray from Babo Botanicals. It’s made with safe ingredients and works great on my girls’ hair.
Essential Oil Detangler Spray
- 2 oz. glass spray bottle
- 5 drops ylang ylang essential oil
- 5 drops lavender essential oil
- 5 drops rosemary essential oil
- 1 tablespoon of argan oil (alternatives: jojoba oil, avocado oil, grapeseed oil or olive oil)
- Alcohol-free witch hazel
You can make this recipe by mixing the ingredients in a bowl and then pouring them inside your spray bottle using a funnel or you can put all the ingredients directly in the bottle (this is how we make it).
Carefully measure your essential oils into your spray bottle.
Add one tablespoon of the oil of your choice. Then, fill the bottle the rest of the bottle with witch hazel, making sure to leave room to insert the sprayer.
Close the bottle and shake well to mix all the ingredients together.
Add a label to your bottle if desired. I find it handy to put labels since I make so many different DIY recipes and I have gotten them mixed up in the past.
To use: Shake well each time before use. Spray onto wet or dry hair and gentle comb through. Start by spraying one or two times and brushing, spray more of the detangling spray while you’re brushing the hair.
