Unfortunately, loads of household cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners included, contain toxic and damaging chemicals. Have you ever used a cleaner that forced you to leave the room or open a window because the chemical smell was that overpowering? Inhaling all of that cannot be good for you.
These chemical-filled cleaners can cause skin and eye irritating, aggravate asthma and respiratory issues, and even negatively impact your reproductive health. They are full of a lot of endocrine disruptors and that’s just something you want to avoid, especially at home.
Thankfully there are natural solutions! These DIY Toilet Cleaning Fizzies will help you tackle that toilet bowl without using toxic chemicals and the fizzies will help clean your toilet bowl. The great thing about this recipe is that you make it once and then you have fizzies for several months! All you have to do is store them in an airtight glass jar until you’re ready to use another one.
Why do they work?
Citric acid is a cleaning powerhouse, particularly for areas that might collect mineral deposits, like toilet bowls and shower heads. Citric acid is antibacterial and antiseptic can be used to clean all kinds of surfaces. Citric acid bonds to mineral deposits and hard water stains, making them easier to remove, which is what makes it great in these Toilet Cleaning Fizzies.
Baking soda is another great natural cleaning agent that can be used all around the home. It naturally deodorizes, is slightly abrasive which makes it a good option for gentle scouring, and can help dissolve dirt and grease in water.
Lemon essential oil is one that I love to use in a lot of my natural cleaning products. It’s antifungal, antiseptic, and antiviral and is an awesome degreaser. Lemon is also deodorizer and gives the air a nice citric scent.
If you want to make a DIY product that you can use with a toilet brush, then try this bathroom cleaner instead. It works great to clean all the surfaces in your bathroom: toilet, tub and sink, especially when you’re dealing with gunk!
