I love giving gifts that babies and parents will love. Sometimes it’s easy to find the perfect gift but sometimes it’s not, especially if you don’t have any kids or if you want to give something unique to your second, third, fourth and so on kid. I recently shared with you my gift ideas for 0-6 months and now I want to share with you gift ideas for 6-12 months.
I made 2 separate posts because during months 6-12 babies will start to get mobile, will start eating foods and interacting much more with the people around them. They also like playing with toys and can engage in more fun activities. I feel that after 6 months babies really start to explore the world around them.
The following gift ideas are based on what my daughter and her baby friends liked between 6 and 12 months, all toys are gender neutral. Click on the name or picture of the toy to see more details or to purchase.
This is a toy every baby going to into toddler-hood should have. Seriously. My daughter loved this and every time we took it to the playground it was a total hit. This toy doubles as a walking toy and a ride-on toy. The older my daughter got the more she played with this.
I’m not into plastic toys but this one is a must have. My daughter started trying to get on everyone’s ride-on toys at the playground and that’s when I realized we had to get one. She loved this from the moment we got it. We go on long walks, shopping and to the playground on this. I feel like a ride-on toy is a must for older babies/toddlers and if you don’t like this specific one, you can look for another one here.
I’m sure by now you think I over did it with toys on wheels but babies going into toddlers love this. My daughter would put all kind of stuff in this wagon and walk around the house. Once she was a better walker we took this wagon grocery shopping with us. She’d walk around the store and I add a few groceries in it. Best way to keep her happy while shopping.
Who doesn’t love play tents? All kids love to hang out in there with their toys and crawl in tunnels so this set is a perfect gift. It’s 3 separate units so you can use them all together or apart. This tent is so loved by everyone that I wrote a whole post about it. Make sure you check it out if you want to buy a smaller set.
We use the squared shaped tent as a ball pit and it was my daughter’s favorite hang out. You can get non-toxic balls with a matching hamper or just the non-toxic balls. We bought 400 and it was just the perfect amount.
Legos are a great toy that will last a long time but since babies like to put stuff in their mouths it’s better to get Duplo legos, which are bigger. A plus is that they are non-toxic! We got this set for my daughter and then bought some other smaller toys that had figurines she liked. There’s plenty to chose from here.
Right now it’s not the best season for this toy but once spring gets here, if your kid can stand up on his own then this toy is a must. There’s something about playing with water and babies. My daughter is almost 2 now and still loves this toy. There plenty of water tables to chose from and different sizes so make sure you get something that fits your house and budget. Tip: I used warm water so she wouldn’t get cold.
All babies love things that make noise and this one not only makes a beautiful sound but they get hypnotized but all the little pieces falling.
What baby is not obsessed with keys? We’ve tried all sorts of keys but none were ‘real looking’ and my daughter refused to play with them until we found these. They keys look pretty real and they key chain that comes with it makes all sort of funny sounds.
Babies love putting things in and taking them out. This is the perfect toy for that and will keep them entertained for a while. Melissa & Doug also makes this type of toy – my favorite is this one and this other one.
This car is bigger than what you imagine but it’s perfect for a baby, not too big nor too small. The handle is perfect for a baby to grab and move it around. This is a great first car and comes in different colors!
Babies love music and these instruments are very easy to shake. Since they have small parts I would make sure your baby is supervised while playing with them or wait until your baby is a little older. My daughter got these at around 10 months and still plays with them.
My daughter and I love wooden puzzles. There is so much you can do with them: play with the animals, point them out, learn about colors, sounds, etc. They’re a great toy. We have many different puzzles but these are our favorite ones:
These eggs are a hit! They have geometrical shapes at the bottom so to put them back in the box you need to match the shape, they make a squeaky sound, have silly faces and you can open and close them. I don’t know what is it about this toy but all babies and toddlers are drawn to it.
This toy is probably a good for smaller babies too but we got it once my daughter was a bit older and she loves playing with the tails.
Rockers are great toys for bigger babies and toddlers. We got one for my daughter before she turned one so we had to help her rock back and forth but she loved it. Now that she’s older she can rock by herself.
This last one is not a toy but I love it. It’s my favorite birthday book because you can record all of your kid birthdays. What I love about it is that it’s short and sweet, you don’t have to write pages and pages of what has happened. I plan to get one for each child and give it to them once they turn 18 (or maybe once they become parents).
You can never go wrong with these since babies and toddlers love to chew on toys. These are not only non-toxic but last a long time. I’ve already used them with two babies and they’re still in great shape!
That’s it..as far as I can remember. Is there another toy you would add to it? Something your baby loved? Leave a comment!
