TIPS TO PACK FOR YOUR FAMILY VACATION:
2 weeks before your trip start thinking about what you’ll need to bring and write it down. Clothes are the obvious but sometimes we forget stuff like nail clippers so now I create a list on my phone note pad of the things we need. I add stuff to it randomly, as I remember it during the next 2 weeks. That way I can go over it once it’s time to pack because if I don’t write things down I might forget some of our essentials while I pack.
Designate one packing day for each family member you have to pack for. Since I pack for myself and my 2 girls, I start packing 4 days before our trip. I take out all the things I want to bring and lay them out folded on our dinning room table. Once I have it all visible I check again to make sure I’m not taking way more than I need. I usually end up putting some of the clothes back into the closet. Once I think I have all I need I pack it.
This process might take a few hours and since I have a small baby I don’t do it all at once and do it only for one person a day so I don’t get overwhelmed.
This is what this packing process looks like for us: On day 4 I pack my baby’s clothes, on day 3 I pack my first born clothes, on day 2 I pack my clothes and on day 1 I pack whatever I forgot to pack the days before.
By doing it this way I don’t get too overwhelmed with packing and I’m pretty good at bringing all of our essentials. If I had to pack it all in one day I would probably lose my mind!
I only do this when I’m packing for a trip that’s longer than a week. If I’m just going away for the weekend I pack for all of us on the same day, although I do start a list of our must haves days before our trip to make sure I don’t forget anything.
Our next vacation is going to Costa Rica for 2 months {to visit my family}, so you bet I had to pack – and I’m pretty sure I overpacked!
