There are not a lot of recipes I make that I think “this is too good to share” but this Instant Pot Honey Garlic Chicken is making me think twice about letting anyone else have a bite!
It’s not just the honey (although honey is yummy) or the garlic (because garlic is yummy too), but it’s the combination of that and the tender chicken. The dish has deep notes of rich flavor when they’re all combined that comes together in a wonderful way.
I’m not the only one that’s loving this great recipe. The family loved it and has already asked if we can make it again.
That’s seriously good stuff if it passes the “kiddo test”.
I used to make this in my slow cooker–but it took ALL DAY. So, now having this to add to my Instant Pot recipes, well, I’m ecstatic.
You know I love my Instant Pot and it makes having variety in our diet so much easier! The Instant Pot gets used regularly in our house. I love that I can throw my ingredients in, set it and then go take care of something else while dinner cooks! And I don’t need to worry about it burning.
Instant Pot Honey Garlic Chicken Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2-3 boneless chicken breasts, cut into large pieces or 5-6 boneless chicken thighs (frozen chicken or thawed, it doesn’t matter )
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 small yellow onion finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon diced garlic
Honey Garlic Sauce Ingredients:
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/3 cup Trader Joe’s Soyaki or soy sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 teaspoon sriracha
- Salt and pepper to taste (obviously)
Directions:
In a small bowl, add the honey, Soyaki or soy sauce and stir together.
Then, add in the ketchup and sriracha then whisk until well blended.
Set your Instant Pot to sauté then add sesame oil and butter and allow the butter to melt completely.
Place the onion and garlic in the Instant Pot and sauté for 1-2 minutes until the onion is tender.
Add the chicken and brown on each side for 2-3 minutes.
Pour the honey/ketchup sauce over the cooked chicken — don’t worry about the sauce being too thin, when you pressure cook, it will thicken the sauce.
Lock the Instant Pot lid and set to poultry function for a cooking time of 20 minutes; alternatively you can set it to be cooked on high pressure for 15 minutes.
Do a natural release for 10 minutes, then quick release the remaining pressure. Then remove the lid.
Serve over rice and garnish with sesame seeds and green onion.
