*Gasp* Yes, I am going there.
There are people that have a stomach for many things but I am not one of them. I’ve always been grossed out about many things and poop and changing diapers is one of them. Yes, I know poop is normal but I still find it gross. I babysat in the past but never had to deal with poopy diapers… I don’t think I could have done it if I had to.
And then… I had my daughter. She’s my daughter, of course I wouldn’t mind changing her diapers.
After the meconium came out poopy diapers weren’t really that scary nor stinky. I was surprised! I can’t speak for formula fed babies but breastfed baby’s poop doesn’t smell bad at all. I was pleased. Diapers changes weren’t the nightmare I was expecting.
I have to be honest, we did have several poopy explosions that were a little scary. In case you’re a new mom, pregnant with your first child, poop explosions happen and they are called explosions for a reason. One minute you’re playing with your cute baby and the next minute your baby is covered in poop, all the way to her neck. I’m not even sure how poop can go from your butt, all over your back and reach you neck when you’re wearing clothes but believe me, it can. Still, it wasn’t that bad.
Then we reached the 6 month mark and my daughter started eating solids. She wasn’t a big eater and even though her poop changed a little and got a tad stinky it wasn’t bad at all. Very manageable. I thought to myself “I got this” and wondered why I even worried about poopy diapers before having her.
Then… she started eating consistently more solids and bam! I came to learn what is toddler poop! So for all those first time moms, let me tell ya, because I wish someone would have told me this…
Toddler poop is the stinkiest poop you will ever have to deal with, really!
My husband and I cannot believe something so stinky can come out from our cutie pie’s butt. Seriously, imagine a dead animal, add some spices to it and that doesn’t even come close to what toddler poop smells like. It’s so bad you can smell when your toddler (or any toddler near you) needs a diaper change without having to check her diaper. Seriously! It is as bad or even worse than you imagine. Haha!
But as any other mommy task, you hold your breath and do it. After all, you pushed that baby out of your body, might as well clean her poop too!
To make things worse, after a certain age they start fighting you during diaper changes. In my case it’s not every time but it used to happen sometimes until I discovered a way to get her to lay still. Amazon ran out of the usual diapers we get and I ended up getting Honest diapers (I had used them before and liked them). Turns out the patterns on the diapers are the key to get my daughter to lay still during a diaper change. She loves the little animals and always looks at the diaper and then wants to get changed. Of course, this means that sometimes she has to show off her diapers but hey, I’ll take it!
I am looking forward to the day my daughter decides to go to the potty and learns to wipe her own butt. However, I’m not going to potty train because I rather deal with the diapers than with the nightmare that is potty training. Plus I’ve researched this whole potty subject and I rather do it on her own terms, when she’s ready, so it can be a smooth transition… For now this means I will have to smell stinky poop for at least one more year – with this kid – and we plan to have at least three one more!
Welcome to mommy-hood! Haha!
Were you also shocked with your toddler’s stinky poop?

It’s downright awful most of the times! My daughter is two and we’ve been working on the potty training thing but, we still have a ways to go with it. More often than not, the smell could make my eyes burn. Bless her heart, she sticks her hand down there and tries to help me or I have to chase her down and tackle her for a diaper change these days!
Saying hi and I’m a new following from the Shine Blog Hop. Have a great day!

Hahaha! It is hard to believe it can be so stinky! I hope your daughter finds interested in the potty soon.
Thanks for stopping by!

Haha 🙂 So true! It is such a shift when they start eating solids –ew! I was pleased when it became “plop-able” which meant I could dump the poo in the potty and there was minimal lefteover for the trash/wash (depending on if it was disposable/cloth) and little remaining on the bum!

It really is!! Stinkiest thing ever! Hahaha!
And you’re right, my daughter is having poops like that now and it makes it much much easier to clean. I guess you could say that’s the positive thing of toddler poop. Lol!
Thanks for stopping by!

I just got done changing the nastiest, slimiest, stinkiest diaper off my toddler….and this was way worse then her post broccoli diaper too!! I am so grossed out……wonder what causes it!!
Carolina says
I am amazed and grossed out frequently! I wonder what causes it too…but I guess if our poops were in diaper they’d be pretty gross too. Lol!

Hahaa! “We can smell her coming these days” – I know what you mean! It’s hard to believe it can be THAT stinky!

Hilarious and I’m in total agreement.
Toddler poop?! Both of my girls still have super stinky poop. It’s dreadful… like knock you over, gagging, awful.
Although it is nice when they wipe their own butts!
Thanks for sharing?! Seems odd to say that. LOL – have a great weekend.

Oh no! I was hoping it was a “stinky phase” but looks like it’s not… 🙁 I’m going to have a party the day my daughter learns to wipe her butt. Haha!

This is one of the reasons why I wait until my babies are six months to start solids. It’s terrible now that my daughter is two. Ugh! I am always so happy when my husband is home and I can pass the task onto him! Haha. Both of my girls are into moving around now. It’s funny because before my oldest was about 13 months, she never moved around! I thought she would be so easy, but now she’s a terror to change! I love the idea to give them their diaper to look at and point out what is on it.
Carolina says
Hahaha! Yes! I wish they would start eating solids once they’re ready to go straight into the toilet! Haha! I always have my husband do diapers when he’s home since I have to do 90% of the poopies anyways. 🙁 It’s funny how much they change from one age to the next…actually from one day to the next, you just never know what you’re going to get. Haha!
