Skin care is extremely important to me, as I am sure it is to you as well! And while I want to make sure my skin stays healthy and happy as I get older, I also want to avoid many of the chemicals and toxic ingredients that are often included in over-the-counter products that are said to benefit your skin.
That’s why I really love to make my own creams and skin care items – such as this DIY Firming Eye Cream! By making this eye cream yourself, you will be able to control what ingredients you are putting on your skin. Not only that but making it yourself is actual cheaper! Saving money and avoiding toxic ingredients? Win!
You will love this wonderfully moisturizing eye cream, particularly in the winter when your skin tends to get so dry, but it’s great to use all year round.
What is in this homemade firming eye cream?
One question I get a lot is: Can coconut oil be used as eye cream? The answer is yes! Coconut oil is amazingly beneficial for the skin. It’s great at hydrating and decreasing water loss in dry skin. It might also help speed up wound healing! It is also naturally antibacterial and anti-fungal.
But I don’t like coconut oil on its own because our skin needs more than just coconut oil, that why this recipe has 5 more ingredients:
Shea butter which is also highly moisturizing and great for the skin. It’s nourishing and even anti-inflammatory.
Red raspberry seed oil has anti-aging benefits because it contains ellegic acid, which helps diminish the destruction of collagen. It also protects against UV damage. Plus, raspberry seed oil contains Vitamin E and phytosterols that can help reduce water loss through the skin.
Neroli oil helps skin to regenerate, which means it helps with scarring, dark spots, and stretch marks. It is also antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory.
And Vitamin E oil offers nutrients to the skin and is also an antioxidant.
This recipe also has rose essential oil which has anti-aging properties.
The beeswax helps give your balm hold, so it doesn’t melt in the summer months, while also nourishing the facial hair with vitamin A.
DIY Firming Eye Cream
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup shea butter
- ¼ cup coconut oil
- ⅛ cup beeswax
- 1 teaspoon red raspberry seed oil
- ½ teaspoon Vitamin E oil
- 10 drops neroli essential oil
- 5-10 drops rose essential oil
- Small cosmetic containers or small mason jars
Instructions:
For these first steps, you can use the microwave or the double-boiler method. I prefer the double-boiler method.
To use the double-boiler method, place a pot of water on your stove over medium heat. Place your shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax in a large, glass mason jar or a glass bowl that will fit your pot and set it in your pot.
Stir the ingredients until they’re melted and combined.
If you are using the microwave, add the shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax to a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 30 seconds or until melted. All microwaves are different so you may have to continue microwaving in 15 second increments until completely melted.
Remove from the heat and add the Vitamin E oil, neroli oil, and raspberry oil and stir to combine.
Then add the rose essential oil and whisk everything together.
Using a dropper, add the mixture to your cosmetic containers or a small mason jar.
Allow it to harden and now your firming eye cream is ready to use!
To use: after washing your face with soap, apply the eye cream under and around your eyes twice a day.
