I love a good body scrub. I’m obsessed with how good my skin feels after using one. Don’t you just feel so fresh and clean after a good scrub? It’s so nice!
Scrubs are a great way to practice self care. You simply take a few extra minutes in the shower or bath and by taking those extra minutes to focus on yourself, you’re truly doing something beneficial for you and your body by scrubbing up all that dead skin.
And it feels a little extra indulgent than just a normal shower. When you step out, you feel a little extra refreshed and energized! As a mom, I don’t always have a lot of time to devote to self care (or indulgences!), so it’s nice to have a delectable little scrub on hand that I can use whenever the fancy strikes.

This DIY Pink Himalayan Salt Scrub with Essential Oils is perfect for anytime! And by making it yourself, you know exactly what’s going into it and don’t have to worry about any strange or toxic chemicals.
Want to know why you’ll love this scrub?
Pink Himalayan Salt has been pretty trendy for the last couple of years. From salt lamps to body products to food products, you can find it almost anywhere. And for good reason! Due to the way it was formed, pink Himalayan salt is one of the purest forms of salt you can get.
How does this awesome salt benefit the body? Magnesium and other minerals in pink Himalayan salt can help soothe away muscle soreness and, when you dissolve it in water, it actually becomes an ionic solution which will help draw toxins out of the body.
While detoxifying, this scrub will also exfoliate (salt is a natural exfoliant) and help to balance your skin’s pH. It can also help tighten and firm skin as well as reduce oily skin. And because it is a natural antiseptic, it can also help treat and reduce acne.
The essential oils in this scrub give it a wonderfully invigorating, fresh scent. Citrus essential oils are also full of antioxidants and are known to help fight germs and boost your immune system. Peppermint essential oil is antiseptic, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory, so it can help many skin issues.
And as we all know, coconut oil is fantastic for your skin! It’s antibacterial and anti-fungal and great for moisturizing.

A quick tip: I like the himalayan salt in bulk because it is more affordable and can be used for recipes like this and every day cooking. In fact, we only use pink himalayan salt for our meals because it is more nutritious than regular table salt.
DIY Pink Himalayan Salt Scrub with Essential Oils
Ingredients:
- 1 cup pink Himalayan salt
- ½ cup coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon sweet almond oil
- 5-10 drops citrus essential oil (grapefruit, lemon or orange)
- 5 drops peppermint essential oil
- 2-4 drops pink food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
Grab a big bowl to mix all the ingredients in and then add your salt to the bowl.
Next add your sweet almond oil to the mixture in the bowl and stir.

Add 1/2 cup of coconut oil to a measuring cup. If it’s not melted put it in the microwave for a few seconds or in a pot with warm water. Once your coconut oil is melted, add the coconut oil to the bowl with the salt. Mix together until a thick paste is formed.
Measure your essential oils into the bowl and mix well.
Add your food coloring, if desired.

Stir until mixture is well blended and fluffy. Store the salts in a glass airtight container until ready to use.
Keep in mind that this scrub is only for your body and should not be used on your face because the salt grains are a bit rough for the face.
This is a great recipe to make as a gift and because it’s so simple to make, you can make a big batch at once! We love making this for Christmas and birthdays.
To use the scrub: scoop out some of the mixture with your hand and scrub your skin. You don’t have to scrub hard for it to be effective. Repeat this process until you have scrubbed yourself from neck to toes.
