A little over 6 years ago I started this blog out of my desire to meet and connect with other like-minded moms and more importantly, because I wanted to inspire moms to live their best lives and to stop being afraid to listen to their instincts.
What I had no idea back then is what a journey of self-discovery this blog would take me on. In fact, I think anyone who is self-employed has no choice but to face themselves, their insecurities and inner demons and has to learn how to be a positive and optimistic person…and above all, has to learn that their value doesn’t come from what others think of them. It’s like having crash course in personal development!
Every month I create content that I hope it will inspire moms, from making a simple craft to trying a new peaceful way to parent. And every month I question myself. You see, when you own a website a lot of your self-worth comes from seeing how many people view your content. It is disheartening when you write something from your heart and then just a few people see it.
It leads to questioning yourself, to wonder if you’re doing the right thing or not…
This is not to say I consider this blog a failure, in fact, this blog has been more successful than what I thought it would be but my dreams are B I G, very, very BIG.
Thanks to this blog I started investing in myself, working on my own inner demons, attending conferences and surrounding myself with very successful people. It has taken me on a journey on understanding how to be successful.
I will never forget the day I was in a room with someone I admire, a multi-million dollar earner, and this person shared their struggles and insecurities. And guess what? They had the same struggles and insecurities as I have, but instead of wallowing in their insecurities, they acknowledged them and kept on trying, keep on going, no matter what life threw at them.
That is when I discovered one of the biggest secrets in order to be successful in life: TO NOT GIVE UP, ever, even when every door is shut on your face, even when no one believes in you, even when you yourself are questioning what you are doing.
And once I noticed this I started paying closer attention to successful people around me. Just this past week I attended a conference by Beaches Resorts called Social Media on the Sand. In this conference we got to hear from Daymond John from Shark Tank and Jamie Kern Lima from IT cosmetics – two people who succeeded in life and turned themselves into self-made billionaires.
Their stories were filled with so much struggle at first, almost being bankrupt, almost having their dreams shattered, lots of doors closing on them…but they didn’t give up. They kept on picking themselves back up, they kept on going, FOR YEARS, even though things seemed to be stacked up against them. They kept on feeding themselves with positive thoughts, they faced their fear of failure, set their goals and keep on going, and going, and going. No matter what!
Honestly, I am not sure if I could have endured all the struggles they endured…
Today as I sit here writing I feel that my dreams feel so far away, that sometimes I’m swimming upstream, and that my dreams are so big they seem a little too crazy.
But I know that if I keep on going and don’t give up, I will get there. Why? Because no matter which successful person you talk to, they got to where they are by NOT giving up and believing in themselves.
James Wedmore, from the Mind Your Business Podcast, once said in one of his episodes that when he was at his lowest point, living in his parent’s basement with only enough money to buy a Subway sandwich he kept telling himself, this is just part of the story I will tell someday.
Whatever you’re going through right now, it’s not who you will be the rest of your life. This is just part of your story, the story you will tell someday when you have reached your goals.
James knew there was more to life and 10 years later he’s living his dream life.
We have SO many examples like this. SO MANY!
And I know it can be hard to keep on going when things around you don’t seem to be working out the way you want them to. I know it because I’ve been there and still am there.
But I have learned to not give up, to keep on pursuing, to keep on believing…
We got this one life to live, we can either live a miserable life or make this a life you love waking up to. The choice is yours.
So I invite you to follow your dreams, to listen to that inner voice and not the voices of those around you. If you have a desire, a dream to do something bigger, it’s because you are meant to do this.
Do not, I repeat, do not give up on yourself. You can do this.
A few months ago I saw Brené Brown speaking at a conference. She was telling us a story of how someone asked her what her overnight success felt like and how shocked she was with this question, because this has been her work for the past 20 YEARS!
Yes, 20 years of her following her intuition, her passion and not giving up. She looked at us and said: “do anything for 20 years, and you are bound to be successful at it.”
It can take less than 20 years, for some it’s just a year, for some it might be more, but the lesson here is that the key to success is to learn how to pick yourself back up and keep on going, no matter what!
You can achieve your goals. So keep on going. Make this a life you love living.
