Making breakfast is one of my favorite ways to start the kids’ day. And this Instant Pot Cinnamon Roll French Toast is my new absolute favorite recipe to do just that!
We don’t have time to do it every day, but I really feel like having a good, fun breakfast can be a great way to get a child off on the right foot for the day. And I love having breakfast with the kids on the weekend when we have more time to make a big production of it.
Just because I want to make a production of it, does not mean that I feel like cooking for hours. So, having a quick and easy recipe I can toss into the Instant Pot and let cook while I get on with the rest of my day — well, that’s just awesome.
As everyone already knows, I love my Instant Pot. It makes cooking so much easier, particularly on days when time is tight. Set it and forget it!
Instant Pot Cinnamon Roll French toast
Ingredients:
French Toast:
- 2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- 4 cups dry Cinnamon Swirl bread – chopped (you could also use french bread or Texas toast)
- Powder sugar for garnish
- Maple syrup for garnish
- Whip cream for garnish
Directions
Slice the bread into cubes. Place in a large bowl and set it aside.
Spray a small round baking dish, cake pan or springform pan with oil spray and set aside.
In a small saucepan, heat milk and 1/4 cup butter over medium heat. Stir until the butter is melted completely, then immediately remove from heat.
In a small bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, salt and eggs and mix until well blended. Stir in the warm milk mixture. Optional: sometimes I’ll throw chopped nuts in the milk mixture if I want my French toast to be more crunchy.
Pour the eggs and milk mixture over the bread and fold until the bread is well coated.
Place the bread mixture into the prepared baking dish.
Add 1/2 cup of water to your Instant Pot inner pot and place a trivet in your Instant Pot. Set your baking dish in the inner pot on top of the trivet.
Set the pressure cooker to High Pressure with a cooking time of 25 minutes. Once it is done cooking, do a quick release.
Allow the french toast bake to rest for 10 minutes. This allows the Instant Pot french toast to settle and firm up. Remove the baking dish from the inner pot.
Place a large plate over the baking dish with the Instant Pot cinnamon roll french toast casserole and carefully flip it over. Lift the baking dish away from the french toast.
Top your french toast with maple syrup, powdered sugar, cinnamon, and/or whip cream. Enjoy!
