If your guys shaves his face regularly, then he’s probably no stranger to shaving foams, gels, and creams. He probably even has a favorite products that he prefers to use for this purpose. But is his favorite product actually serving him well?
Shaving gel serves a couple of purposes. It helps moisturize facial hair and it provides a lubrication barrier between the skin and the razor.
Many shave gels and foams you can buy at the store contain alcohol. That can be very drying to the skin and can actually cause a lot of the problems men are looking to avoid by using them. Nevermind the other chemicals that these kinds of products can contain, like endocrine disruptors!
By making your guy’s shave gel at home, you can make sure you are avoiding all these questionable ingredients because you get to control what goes into it. He’ll be amazed at what switching to a natural product like this can do for his skin!
Aloe vera is an important ingredient in this shave gel because it is a fantastic natural moisturizer. It also has anti inflammatory properties that help to decrease inflammation and can help heal acne by assisting wound healing. In addition to being so soothing, aloe vera contains loads of antioxidants like vitamin C and beta carotene that help to hydrate and firm the skin.
The coconut oil will help lubricate the shaving razor, which will decrease the chance of nicks, cuts, and razor burn. In addition to that, coconut oil is so beneficial for the skin. It’s great at hydrating and decreasing water loss in dry skin and it is also naturally antibacterial and anti-fungal.
Vegetable glycerin is a natural humectant, which means it helps your skin to retain moisture. It helps to deal in the moisture that the coconut oil and aloe vera bring to this shave gel. It can also help regulate the oil that the skin naturally produces.
Vitamin E oil offers nutrients to the skin and is also an antioxidant – I love using this in all my facial and body products because it does wonders to your skin. You can also use Jojoba Oil instead of Vitamin E oil since it moisturizes your skin and is full of antioxidants .
I added a few essential oils to this recipe: cedarwood essential oil reduces skin irritations, like acne, and is anti inflammatory, plus it has manly scent. Orange essential oil is also anti inflammatory and antiseptic. It also helps to increase the skin’s ability to absorb vitamin C and collagen production.
