Once you see “pregnant” on that pee stick, a million questions go through your mind.
I read A LOT during my pregnancy and what to expect during those months, but I wish I could have read a summary and some tips of
what it would be like, so this is why I’m sharing this with you.
There are so many good sites that will tell you what’s going on with your baby each week and that will give you tips so I’m not going to go over that. If you want that kind of information you can get books like:
These books will tell you everything you will feel and will explain the development of your baby.
If you’re thinking about having a natural child birth Ina May’s guide to childbirth is a must! It’s a very educational and empowering book.
You can also sign up in Baby Center for updates of your baby’s development that will be sent directly to your email and there are plenty of apps you can download and check on your baby’s development.
First of all, if you’re planning to have a baby but are not pregnant yet use this time to do anything and everything you need to get done, whether it’s work or home projects, trips, moves, anything. You will be so tired during your pregnancy and right after delivery that you’ll with you would have done more when you could.
First trimester:
No one tells you how tired you’re going to be! All you’re going to want to do is sleep. All. The. Time.
This is when your nausea will kick in and you will feel “icky”. Hopefully you won’t be like me and you’ll only throw up for a few weeks (not for 9 months).
My advice with nausea? Try different things and try different foods because different things work for different women. In my case, eating soups, apples and drinking a glass of water with half of a lemon squeezed in it made my nausea go away temporarily.
Another thing that helped me was to have food next to my bed. Apples were my best friend. I would eat an apple at night or before getting up and it would help with my nausea.
You might be scared during this trimester and worried about your baby. Everyone says that the first trimester is when you’ll know if your baby will “stick around”. There is not much you can do, so don’t read negative things online about miscarriages. Yes, they do happen but not so often and what’s the point in worrying? Just try to enjoy this miracle.
Second Trimester:
You will feel great! This is the time to do all the baby shopping, get the baby room ready and get everything you need to get done.
If you have big work projects, this is the time to do them! Listen to me, do it now! Do everything you need to do because soon you won’t feel like doing anything.
For most people the nausea stops and you feel like your old self again – with lots of energy! You will also have a cute little bump and if you’re like me, find out the gender of your baby.
What I loved the most about this stage is that you start to feel your baby move and also when she has hiccups. It’s amazing to feel another life growing inside of you.
Third Trimester:
You are exhausted once again but this time you’re also huge, which means your mobility is limited and your sleeping is all broken up because all you want to do is pee. Seriously. I peed at least 2 times per hour!
The closer you get to your due date, the more miserable you might feel. You will be happy because you know you’ll meet your baby soon but carrying all that extra weight will take a toll on you. All I can say is be patient, don’t get your labor induced, just wait for your body to be ready so you can have a safe and smooth delivery.
Don’t forget! You will have this baby eventually. That’s a guarantee!
Enjoy your third trimester and try to get as much rest as possible. You will need it because once your munchkin is born you won’t get much sleep.
Tips during your pregnancy:
- Remember that your baby feels everything you do, so try to stay relaxed during your pregnancy and avoid any stressful situations.
- Ask your spouse to help you. If she/he doesn’t understand what you’re going through, have him/her read about it. Partners don’t always get it!
- Do some exercise, even if it’s just going for a walk.
- Eat healthy! Avoid processed foods and sugars. Whatever you eat is building your baby. Our bodies are so amazing that even if you eat badly your baby most likely will be fine but the better you eat, the better for the both of you. Oh! But don’t forget to indulge every once in a while.
- Join a mommy group – whether it’s local or online. I joined a Facebook group of moms that were all due in the same month and it was really helpful to ask questions about what I was feeling and what to do. You’ll soon find out we all go through very similar things during pregnancy. The support you can get is great.
Don’t know of a Facebook group? Go to Baby Center Community and join your birth club month, invite some of the people there to a Facebook group you created and you’re all set. Don’t forget to set some basic ground rules, after all, we’re all hormonal.
- I know you’ll want to know all about your baby and how it’s growing, but besides eating and staying healthy there isn’t much you can do, your baby and body will do what their meant to do. So use this time to read about parenting styles and/or how to care for you baby. If you’re following my blog it’s probably because you think like me, so read about attachment parenting, raising kids with love, baby wearing and co-sleeping – yes, there a safe ways to co-sleep.
Enjoy! Soon you will meet your bundle of joy and your life will be AMAZING!
