How to keep your baby cool while babywearing

Summer is here and it’s going to be a hot one!

I spent hours thinking how am I going to carry my baby in her ErgoBaby Carrier and her Tula Baby carrier during the hot days.  She kind of likes her stroller, and I could get a fan for it, but she prefers the carrier over the stroller and when we’re out she will only  nap in the Ergo or Tula.

Some friends suggested I could use an ice pack.  I thought that was awesome idea, except it would only last for a while. What if I went out to lunch? Would I ask our waiter to put the ice pack in the freezer? What if I went shopping? I knew I had to find another solution.

Then I found the Frogg Togg Chilly Pad.  The perfect solution to keep our babies cool in the summer – whether it’s on the stroller or carrier!

The Frogg Togg Chilly Pad is a type of “towel” that stays cold and helps you keep cool.  It was originally made for athletes and people that do strenuous activity during hot weather but it’s perfect for my baby.

I’ve been using it for the last 3 summers and it really works. Both my husband and I are fans of it.

How does it work?

Basically you wet the towel and squeeze out the excess water.  The towel starts cooling and it’s effect last for up to 4 hours. Since you squeezed out the excess water it doesn’t make you or your clothes wet and if it stops cooling you just wet it again.
– Which means I can take it everywhere and be out for as long as I need to. –

The pad comes in it’s own little case so if you need to put it away you can do so.  It also last a long time and you can machine wash it.

How do I use it on my baby?

I use the pad both on the stroller and when I’m babywearing. I have 2 pads: one for the stroller and one for babywearing that I’ve cut in half.

Stroller:
When I’m using it on the stroller I just put it on the seat and I lie my baby on top of the pad so her back is against it.  The pad is so long it will cover almost the entire seat.

Babywearing:
Since the pad is so long I find it works best when cut in half for babywearing.  I use one half on my baby’s back and the other half between my baby and me when using the baby carrier.

I have no idea how it works but it works! I’m amazed at how cool this pad is!

I’m happy I found a solution to take out my baby during the summer! 🙂
